From the Author:
I've always been a fan of science fiction, especially stories involving time travel. So, when the prompt for the series was: 'A Traveler's Guide: Stories about Space Exploration, Time Travel & Other Worlds' I knew I would write a time travel story. When I sat down to write the story, I found myself constantly interrupting the process with questions about time travel. This was my lightbulb moment; this was the throughline of the story. I wanted to have a story where the reader/listener could feel the author's frustrations with all the questions. From there the story started to flow.
I enjoy the writing process. When I have an idea that grabs a hold of me, I have to let it out. This story became no different. Once I could picture it in my head, the first draft flew out of me. I appreciated all the feedback and notes from Robbie to help shape it into its final and better form. Then, getting to record it out loud was a blast. It was fun to bring the story and all the characters to life. With my background in improv and comedy, this was wonderful. They weren't just words on the page anymore. They became more real, more alive.
One of my favorite science fiction writers is Robert Sheckley and I wanted to emulate him by injecting humor into the story. Sheckley's stories are not only thought provoking but also hilarious. I find most sci-fi to be a bit dry or takes itself a little too seriously. I enjoy levity. So, not only from the author getting annoyed with his fans, but also the time travel story being told, I wanted there to be humor. I find that when stories are void of any comedy, they feel less real. Because I find that even in the most dire of situations there still can be room for laughter. The main thing I'm trying to say with this piece is that some things in life should just be enjoyed. Don't overanalyze, don't overthink it, just enjoy. To quote another great science fiction writer, Kurt Vonnegut Jr, "And I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, 'If this isn't nice, I don't know what is."
